Who is Anna Kloots and what is her travel story?
Name? Anna Kloots
IG? @traveloutsidethebox
Age? 29
Homebase? New York City
Day job? Full-time traveler and content creator
Solo or group travel? I prefer to travel solo or with my husband
Favorite airline? Delta
How many countries have you visited? 78
Favorite city and why? Paris, France. It’s the first city I ever traveled solo, and I think it’s the most beautiful and charming city in the world. I speak fluent french and I love to spend the day exploring the museums and strolling through the streets.
Top bucket list destination? Uganda to gorilla trek
Airbnb or hotel? Hotels, but small, boutique ones are my style. My favorite this year was the Hotel Lungarno in Florence, I had a balcony looking out over the Ponte Vecchio!
When and why did you first get the travel bug? I first got it when I went to Paris at eighteen as a graduation trip. It was my first time out of the country, and I fell in love with travel and the feeling of being out of my element.
Most memorable trip? My first trip to Africa changed my life. I went to Tanzania to go on safari and visit local villages. It is so beautiful and magical there, it helped me to connect with myself and my priorities and afterward I came home and quit my job.
Best travel advice for new travelers? Don’t spend your trip trying to track-down photo ops and places you’ve seen on Instagram. Find your own adventure, discover your own places. Dig in and let the day take you where it does.
What’s your secret to affording the ability to travel? I live in a studio New York City and basically have no belongings. No car, no pets, no kids, and when I’m traveling – no rent!
Do you have a travel blog we should check out? I contribute articles to WeAreTravelGirls.com!
Upcoming travel plans? Chile, Easter Island, and Bora Bora
Anything else you want us to know? I don’t “do it for the ‘gram”. I’ve been traveling for over a decade – and just in the last two years made my photos public. I try to capture and share authentic travel moments to inspire people to go explore the world.
